The Daylilies

THE DAYLILIES

Daylilies are practically carefree. They prefer full sun but half a day is sufficient. Minimum effort will be well rewarded with exquisite flowers. Since all our plants are grown outside under open skies, they will adapt easily to your garden. All daylilies we offer are shipped mature with as much roots as possible to improve a faster adaptation, most of them will bloom since the first year, especially if planted properly. Full blooming of superior quality will occur the following season.

FLOWERING PERIOD: EARLY, MID-SEASON, LATE,

Since temperature is always a determining factor, the blooming period may vary from one year to another or from one region to another. In general, early blooming begins about two months after the plant becomes active and continues throughout the summer. Mid-season varieties bloom between the third and fourth month after activity begins, and late varieties about the fourth and the fifth month. Some varieties repeat blooming.

TETRAPLOID – DIPLOID,

Normally daylilies have 11 pair of chromosomes "diploid" but most modern cultivars have the double of that number thus creating "tetraploid" varieties. This is of importance to those who enjoy crossbreeding since both parent plants must have a similar genetic constitution. Daylilies, however, may be enjoyed simply for their stunning beauty, regardless of their genetic characteristics, since both diploid and tetraploid are equally magnificent.
